SLEEPING BEAUTY (or February Deception)
Behind her pallid, powdered face
And apron spread so tidy white
A smug and priggish inner smile
Cries to speak of hope so bright.
Maples stark, bereft of garb,
Betray her harsh breath so severe.
Yet in her ardent heart...a moan...
Birth pangs of her joy deferred.
Resting here in calm repose...
Oh! For one petal of Summer's rose!
She waits in quietness and awe
And holds her breath for April thaw.
